Three machines, in the order they happened

Every one of these does therapeutic work, and every one of them is also an instrument. A machine holding a limb can measure force at the joint, which is the one thing a camera on a tripod and a band on a wrist will never give you. That is why a software company builds hardware.

01 Where the company starts

Named after Michael's mother. She was an Air Force nurse who then gave thirty-three years to the VA, and toward the end of her life her son was the one helping her stand up.

ROSE is the machine he wished he had had in that room. Not a companion robot and not a piece of gym equipment. A walker that comes to you, takes the load of getting from sitting to standing, stays with you across a floor, and is still there at three in the morning when the person who normally helps is asleep.

The patent was granted in April 2021. It covers motorized autonomous movement, a telescoping mast, manipulator arms, a tether system and modular payload bays. Everything the company has built since, the app, the devices, the data layer underneath them, came out of the problem ROSE was drawn to solve.

The invention came first and the company came second. That is unusual, and it explains most of what we are.

The hand is where independence is decided. A person can walk across a room and still not be able to hold a fork, and the second thing is what keeps them asking somebody else for help every day.

What it does is simple. The hand goes in. Each finger sits in its own linkage. The device opens and closes them, again and again, for as long as the session runs. Where a finger can move on its own it is left to move. Where it cannot, the machine does the work.

Why the count matters. Repetition is how the nervous system reorganizes itself after an injury, and it reorganizes best early, in the weeks and months when most people have already gone home and have nothing to practice on. An hour of hands-on therapy buys a few dozen hand repetitions. A session on this device buys hundreds. We are careful about what that does and does not prove, and the Research page sets out both columns honestly, but the value of starting early and doing more is not the part anybody argues about.

It travels. It packs into a case and goes on a plane. That sounds like a detail and it is not one: it means therapy does not have to happen in a building somebody has to drive to. It can reach a farm in a rural county, a veteran two hours from the nearest VA medical center, or a clinic on the other side of the world.

HandVivante holds an FDA 510(k). Robotimize manufactures it, Prosperous Robotics distributes it in the US, and the transfer of that clearance to us is in process. The clearance is on the device and is held today by its manufacturer. Prosperous is not itself FDA cleared, and we will keep saying so in those words.

Heroes Exoskeleton

Walking and balance · lower limb

Walking is not one skill. It is a hundred small corrections a second, most of which nobody notices until they stop happening.

The Heroes Exoskeleton works the lower limb for people relearning how to walk and how to stay upright. It supports the parts of the movement a leg cannot yet produce, and it lets the person supply everything they can, which is the whole point. Assistance that does too much is not therapy; it is a wheelchair with extra steps.

Because it is coupled to the leg, it records what a camera in the corner of a living room cannot: the torque at the joint, the asymmetry between one side and the other, and whether a person's tenth minute looks like their first.

What makes any of this worth owning is what happens to the measurements after the session ends. Each of these machines feeds the same record, on the same timeline, for the same person, and that record is what lets tomorrow's program be different from today's.
